0 Immediate action All drivers must sign the document captioned « Commitment to safe driving »
1 Departure Checks Systematic briefing and debriefing with drivers before departure and /or upon their return from their mission.
Simultaneously investigate and sign of travel form (vehicle condition, the driving quality) by the driver/conductor or driver / passenger (with an inspection form for each vehicle).
2 Effects of over loading Respect maximum weights when loading
3 Accident management Stick to the emergency procedures to be followed in the event of an accident.
Assistance / first aid
Investigation report (should include preemptive and corrective measures)
4 Stop Points Obligatorily take a rest break of between 15 to 30 minutes at stop points after 2hrs of driving or at any other secured spot after driving between 80 to 120 km.
5 Approval certificate before using the vehicle Obligatorily obtain a list of minimum equipment and minimal specifications
Make sure authorization documents for the vehicle, the driver, tasks to be performed etc. are on board.
Periodically and systematically perform a road warranty control test of vehicle in accordance with the laws in force.(A responsibility of the fleet control management)
6 Type of vehicle to be used Verification of the conformity of manufacturing standards (presentation of specifications) with regards to the intended activity and use of the vehicle.
Prioritize the use of new vehicles and / or define mileage based on vehicle activity ( request for mileage information)
7 Satellite GPS tracking system and monitoring of driving habits Installation of the ODB GPS vehicle tracking system
Systematizing the analysis of the tracking feedback.
8 Recruitment and accreditation of drivers Conforming to internal recruitment rules
In-service training of the driver in defensive/preventive driving.
Authentication of drivers’ documents in conformity with the law in-force (genuine ID card and driving license)
9 Driver’s health Make sure the driver is in good health before recruitment and request a medical checkup.
10 Driving under the influence Sensitization of drivers on the negative effects of alcohol, drug abuse, medication and remind them of such each time they are about to take off.
Make available and publish internal rules on alcohol and drug abuse.
11 Training and recycling of drivers Make available a core module on driving (CEMAC code) during defensive driving training sessions.
Broaden the knowledge of drivers on the CEMAC code.
– Make available the CEMAC code
– Improve commitment (during Toolbox and other lessons) by making use of attendance sheet.
Obligatory formation / sensitization of drivers to Assistance / first aid
Internal popularisation of alcohol / drug policies with particular attention to drivers.
   * Popularisation ( via toolbox, training or any other means) accompanied by the presentation of attendance sheets.
Hand out useful information (that has to do with the journey) to drivers and encourage them to put them into practice.
Commitment to the code of conduct (hand out the signed copy)
Sensitization of drivers on changes in road driving manners (in compliance with statutory road driving regulations).
* Monthly sensitization training sessions supported by the filling of the attendance sheet.
12 Recognition and appreciation Stimulate and encourage companies and their sub-contractor transporters to envisage strategies aimed at enhancing the professional growth of their best drivers.
Promote accident-free drivers. Put in place best driver contests (at least once per trimester) Present them the selection criteria form
